When life gets in the way

This week was a tough one for my project. I didn't get any work done on my aria. It's ok though because I got a lot of work done in the beginning and kind of got ahead of my own schedule. I guess in a way I was preparing for a time like this. So when I get back on track, that's when I will do my interview. Update: I have changed the person I am interviewing from Taylor Trolia to one of my best friends Sondra Alvey.
Not only is she more convenient but she is also my best friend so there is a higher comfort level. It won't even feel like an interview. Sondra graduated from Palo Verde my sophomore year and went to EAC(Eastern Arizona College). I believe her major was music performance. That is something I will have to clarify with her. But I know she went through the audition process with some vocal solos. I know music is something very important to her and has helped in so many. I know enough about her to the point where I don't even need to interview her but I will. I will plan for that for next week.

Down to business

I have begun research on languages. I think I decided on a language but I will not yet reveal it. I guess I will try to interview Taylor and get her take on music and how it has positively and negatively effected her life. I highly doubt there has been any negative impact for her. For as long as I knew, she seemed to have a divine love for music and it sure did great things for her. She was blessed with a great ear for music along with a very mature and pure voice.
I have the words already now it is just a matter of creating the music and translating the words. Maybe French. It is not extremely common for an opera, however it is not uncommon. The most common are German and Italian. I'm currently leaning towards either French or Spanish.

Back in Business

I was having a rough time after my proposal because I uploaded the wrong video for my elevator pitch. I am just moving on with this project and will try again some other time. I am back to square one with the presentation part. I, once again, have no idea what to do. I am not comfortable recording my voice but there is no way to sing it so I don't know what I'll do at all.
As for making the aria, I have already come up with some words. Now all I have to do is translate it into the language of my choice and create the accompaniment. I think I am leaning towards no interview with Taylor due to lack of time. Basically, at this point it is just going to be a lot of decision making. That and making things happen.

Rude Awakening

I thought I uploaded my elevator pitch the night it was assigned but I found out today that it is not here. I will try again tonight I guess and hope for the best. At this point in my project it is no longer an issue of writing the aria; it is more of how I am going to present it. I was planning on singing it to the class but Mrs. Newman suggested I just show the class a few lines from it instead. I've already begun writing it.
So I may just write a few lines and show those instead of writing an entire aria.

Next Step

Today I am going to research some popular languages for arias. I know some popular ones are German, French and Italian. Although I have sung in all of those languages, it will still be very difficult to come up with context that flows and makes sense. This project seems impossible for someone as amateur as I. I suppose I could ignore popularity among languages and do something easier for me like Spanish or Latin.
I also plan to look through some arias that I have sung and others that I know and research the meanings of each of them later on. To be quit honest I have no idea why I chose to do this. I guess it is the thing I object to the least because I do not want to do this project. Music is indeed my passion but not enough to do this for it.

Slow Start

At least now I have more of a set plan. I wasn't really sure at first. After I interview Taylor I will get an idea of what language to do. Maybe I could use an existing aria and make it my own. Like a remix. If course I would give recognition to the original composer. I already have a few ideas of pieces I could potentially use... maybe I don't have a set plan after all. More like a general idea I guess.

Day 1

Came to class expecting to catch up on work from previous assignments. Ended up preparing to write an aria. This is day one. I currently have no clue how I'm going to start it. Will it be from a made up opera? Will it be in English, Italian, German, French? It'd be a good challenge to make it a foreign language. Maybe. Maybe not. I'll decide as time goes on.
